Why Go Further
Kaprun sits below the Kitzsteinhorn glacier, facing the Grossglockner — Austria's highest peak at 3,798 meters. Proposing with the country's tallest mountain in frame is hard to beat: dramatic, uncrowded, and easy to reach by cable car.
Zell am See
Just below Kaprun, Zeller See gives you the softer half of the day — a calm lake ringed by the same peaks, perfect for the golden-hour photos after the glacier session.
Dinner at the Grand Hotel
To close the day, I like sending couples to the Grand Hotel Zell am See , right on the private beach. After the proposal up on the glacier, you walk straight into a private dinner by the water — same view, candlelight instead of alpine sun.

Why Schladming
Schladming is famous for its ski season, but in summer those same mountain stations open up into some of the most dramatic — and most overlooked — proposal locations in the Alps. You get wide-open peaks, ski-lift views, and the Dachstein glacier on the horizon, without the crowds that fill the classic lakeside spots.
Wolfgangsee — My Favorite Lake in the Salzburg Area
Out of all the lakes around Salzburg, Wolfgangsee is the one I keep bringing couples back to.It has that feeling of standing right at the edge of the Alps — the mountains rise dramatically straight out of the water — but it's only 30 minutes by bus from Salzburg, so no rental car needed. If you're flying in just for your proposal, this lake is one of the easiest to reach.
Along the shore you'll find three villages, each with its own charm: St. Gilgen, Strobl, and St. Wolfgang. A ferry connects all three, which means we're never locked into one location — if the light is better on one side of the lake, or you want a village backdrop instead of open water, we simply hop on the boat.The water is a deep emerald green, the shoreline is soft and walkable, and you don't need to be a hiker to reach the most beautiful spots — perfect if you're planning to get down on one knee in heels or a suit.
This is why Wolfgangsee shows up again and again in my proposal and engagement sessions — it photographs beautifully in every season, and it's simply one of the most romantic lakes in Austria.
No Hiking Required
This is the part most couples don't expect: you don't need hiking boots or a training plan to get here. The cable cars that carry skiers up in winter run all summer too, so we ride straight up to the viewpoint — you arrive proposal-ready, not out of breath.

Here's the insider tip: if you stay at least two nights in a hotel in the Dachstein-Schladming region over summer, you receive the Sommer Card, which gives you free cable car rides up to the peaks included in your stay. It's the easiest way to reach the best proposal viewpoints — at no extra cost.
